The Bookstore / Subscription Service will be the lifeblood of Mishmashers’ creative front.
Not only are we trying to create a system for Authors who seek the tools they need for publication (self-publishing or traditional), but we want to offer a platform to share their writing in a way that can offer them exposure and, ideally, advance them further with their goals.
Mishmashers was founded by brothers Wesley Nyx (me) and S.A. Moore, and, in turn, it is easy for us to publish our own personal original stories for our readers. And, we will. In the interim, both our writings will be what props up Mishmashers.com (there are around thirty novels published between us, with five of them, now, written together). As this is our venture, and because we believe in the age old refrain of ‘putting your money where your mouth is’, a good portion of our works will be published, completely free of charge.
Beyond ourselves, we have other authors who have accompanied us on this journey. Their stories will also be available on Mishmashers, either free or …
This brings us to our next subject – the subscription service, which will be done through Patreon.
I had to do some soul searching and some experimentation when it came to what I wanted the business model for Mishmashers to be. What I came to was that a subscription service was the only possible way the company could flourish.
I deeply considered publishing everything I have ever written, free of charge, and supporting the website with ads, but, really, it is no longer a viable method. The sheer amount of content we would have to put out in order to obtain enough of those almighty clicks is unfeasible – without compromising why I want to do Mishmashers in the first place. I don’t want to put out smut or to be always writing things I don’t want to write.
At the core of Mishmashers is still that little boy in school who wrote comic-books (in spite of not being able to draw at all) and had a million different stories he wanted to make, that he was excited to make. I want to feel excited about what I am making on Mishmashers.com and I want to offer a platform for other people who feel excited about what they’re making, and I want our readers to be able to sense that excitement.
So, the best course of action, I’ve decided, is to have a Patreon page. But, we are not asking you to support us or give us money out of the kindness of your heart. We want to earn that. Thus, we are working hard to fill out our little Mishmashers book store. A subscription to Mishmashers.com through Patreon unlocks all the content we’ve published or will ever publish on Mishmashers.com and we intend to hold ourselves to an ambitious schedule.
Every month, we intend to add new installments to full-fledged novels, as well as standalone short stories, novelettes, novellas, and more. Some of them will be available free of charge (our “buy in”, if you will), and others will require a paid subscription.
All funds made from the Patreon will funnel back into the company. This will be how we pay for new writers to come onboard and share their work, pay for server cost, and promote the website.
